Packing the Dome

Updated on

1. Pull the dome into a line

1.1. Hold the dome material at the end opposite the door and inflation tube

1.2. Pull on the dome so that the reinforced skirt is in a straight line

1.3. Fold the curved side over the main dome body, but do not pass the skirt edge

1.4. Lay the door and inflation tube so that they are aligned parallel to the skirt

2. Starting at the door end, walk along the length of the dome and fold in the edges so that the line of material is roughly 3 feet wide

If the width is too small or too wide, the dome will not fit correctly into the luggage straps or bag.

3. Place the duffle bag at the door end

4. Unzip the duffle bag and remove any extra accessories from it

5. Starting at the end opposite the door, roll up the dome like a sleeping bag

5.1. Pause every couple rolls to let any trapped air escape

  • It is OK to press or gently kneel on the material to press air out.
  • Ensure that the reinforced skirt edges stay aligned as you progress so that no interior gray material is showing.

5.2. As you near the end, fold the inflation tue over so that it lays flat on the rest of the dome material facing the end of the roll

6. Once the dome is completely rolled up, slide the two luggage straps underneath it

Make sure the straps are flat and do not have any twists.

7. Tighten the luggage straps around the rolled dome

Only tighten the straps enough to secure the dome. Do not over-tighten; this can damage the dome material.

8. Place the dome into the duffle bag

Make sure the buckles of the straps are on top so that they do not damage the dome material.

9. Zip the bag closed

Ensure that none of the material catches in the zipper.

10. Store the duffle in a cool, dry place

Do not stack anything on top of the duffle; this can cause damage to the dome material.
